Before I introduce Masami Sato, I want to tell you the reason I'm hosting this teleseminar. The purpose is to raise fund for a children center, Rumah Nur Salam (Nur Salam House) - a 24-hour activity center and safehouse that provides a safe, healthy and loving environment for all children under the age of 18, living or loitering, in and around the Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur. They provide various activities for the children to keep them in school and off the street. Like many such organisations, they operate on a limited budget.

In the past two years, I've been reading books written by very successful people. One of the common themes they preach is the importance of giving - in order to receive, you must give first. Honestly, I don't understand how that works.

Do you know anyone who keeps saying, "I'll give to charity when I have more money", or "I'll help when I have more time". The day that they have more money, or more time never comes.

One day, I was telling a group of people about what I would like to do. One of them (a very successful entrepreneur) responded, "Give first, then you'll receive".

I don't understand how that works but I reckon if it works for those very successful people, it should also work for me. So I started giving. Whenever friends or other people need help, and I'm in the position to help (give), I do whatever I can within my capacity.

I was amazed by how when I started giving, things keep coming back to me. Don't get me wrong. What I want did not magically drop on my lap. What often happens is I would be led to an opportunity or a contact that eventually leads me to what I want.

I still don't understand how this "Give first, then you receive" thing works. I only know that it works. Perhaps because when we open our hands to give, we become more ready to receive what comes our way.

That brings us back to the teleseminar.
